Management Team Mark HeurungManaging Partner
Mark started his career in 1990 as a college intern with Gene Storms in St. Cloud MN. He started his full-time career after earning an economics degree from St. Cloud State University.
In 1992 he became a Field Director and in 1993 he succeeded Gene as the Managing Director in St. Cloud. After six years in St. Cloud, Mark accepted the opportunity to run the district in Edina MN in the fall of 1999. During his tenure, Edina grew from 7 full-time reps to 25 and $1,400,000 of premium to over $3,500,000. He started his run in Edina with no reps under 8 years and left with 18 under 8 years of experience.
The Edina office won numerous awards including the growth award 8 times, the OARS award 4 times and 2nd place in the DA achievement award in 2006. They also led their class for the Central Region 6 consecutive times.
Mark was also a MD board member from 2005-2007 and is a life member of the Million Dollar Round Table. During this time he was also a member of ELP and LDP. He is also very active with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Minnesota, helping raise awareness and money.
He was named the Managing Partner of The Columns Resource Group in Minneapolis on Nov. 1st 2007, once again succeeding his mentor and good friend Gene Storms.
Mark is married to Sue and they have two daughters, Emily (8) and Heidi (4). They enjoy spending time at the lake entertaining family and friends. Mark is also an amateur wine collector for the past 10 years.
 Derek Tamm, CLU®Managing Director
Derek is a 2004 graduate of St. John’s University with a B.A. in Economics. He interned for 2 years with NML and paid for 60 lives in two summer internships. Following a 5 month escapade with another company after graduating, he returned to NML and was a 200 lives writer his first full year with the company. He personally produced for 3 years and was appointed Managing Director of the St. Cloud, MN office in September of 2007. Just recently, Derek accepted the position of Chief Development Officer of the Columns Resource Group. He was a two time qualifier of MDRT in his first 4 full years with the company.
In his personal life, he is married to Melinda, likes to golf, hunt, and travel, and is actively involved in several charitable organizations in St. Cloud, including one he helped start, the Miracle League of Central Minnesota.  Austin BarnesCollege Unit Director
Austin began his career as a college intern in May of 2003 while attending St. Cloud State University. He graduated with a B.S. in Finance and started his fulltime career as a Financial Representative with Northwestern Mutual in June of 2004. In addition to running his personal practice, he also helps to recruit and develop college interns located in the Minneapolis office.
Austin is married to Heather and they own a condo in St. Louis Park. He recently added a full time associate to help him with his ever growing business, which happens to be his sister. When he is not working Austin enjoys spending time with friends and family as well as golfing and hunting. Barb TovsenChief Financial Officer |
